He concluded, "Maybe the end is near."
I was eavesdropping as my dad watched the evening news. My eyes were glued on the monitor, concentrating on a written report I have due the next day. It was a bit boring so I decided to join my dad in watching the news than eavesdropping it from afar.
The TV screen flashed:
CNN: The Indonesian Earthquake.
I was listening hard because it made me feel interested on what is really happening in our world in the present time [Since I don't watch TV that much]. As I heartily absorbed everything the reporter said, my dad uttered something that I haven't perceived.
"Daddy, anong sinabi mo?"
"Alam mo ba yung end of the world?"
I was horror stricken because everytime I'd hear of the word apocalypse, I wish it will never come.
"Opo. Napag-aralan po namin yan sa Social Studies namin. Sa Maya Civilization daw po kasi, yung mga priest dun may capability mag-predict po ng solar and lunar eclipses and the like. Tapos po, na-predict daw po yung sa apocalypse."
"Kelan daw?"
I was curious then. Why is dad as asking me these questions?
"December 21, 2012?"
It's near my mother's birthday and my baby brother's birthday.
"Oh. Bakit mo, daddy, natanong?"
Then he explained.
"Kasi ang dami ng calamaties. Tignan mo for instance, and Indonesia and ngayon! Ang Philippines."
"Oo nga no."
It made me think twice since the light from the television screen distracted me. My eyes were hurting but still I managed to think. It was 12 o'clock midnight, so what could you expect?
I don't believe in apocalypse. It just makes me really curious of how on earth did they predict that it is near! It was absurd for me at first, but now, it seems that I want to lear more and explore more...
Explore more.
